As previously mentioned, an initial evaluation of literature by the EGAPP in 2007 came to the conclusion that there was insufficient evidence to support CYP pharmacogenomic testing for SSRIs.20 Since that time, research in this area has continued with some studies suggesting beneficial effects of certain pieces of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic test information when applied in clinical practice scenarios.39 Despite this optimism, uncertainty and challenges still exist in identifying the genetic components of SSRI response.40 At the time of this review, a reevaluation of SSRI evidence is currently underway that will hopefully provide more up-to-date guidance for these medications.
