high levels of past-year drinking among individuals in the youngest onset group who reported 6 or more past-year stressors. Individuals in this subgroup reported drinking on average 3.5 oz of alcohol per day (i.e., ~6 drinks), much more than early-onset drinkers with 2 or fewer past-year stressors (0.8 to 0.9 oz), and than those with 3 to 5 stressors (1.8 oz; Dawson et al., 2007, Table 2). Although we had a relatively large sample, we did not have sufficient power to detect effects of this kind. For example, fewer than 4% of our participants reported having 3 or more SLEs that exceeded our severity threshold for inclusion in analyses.
