The mean frequency of binge drinking episodes per week was 1.19 (SD = 1.27), with a range of 0 to 5.5 episodes per week. A total of 127 of 352 (36.1%) had at least one parent with alcohol problems and were considered family history positive. Average age of initiation of alcohol consumption in the sample was 15.6 (SD = 1.64). Age at initiation of drinking was younger in males (M=15.3 SD=1.79) than in females (M=15.8 SD=1.56); the difference was significant (p=0.03).
