The insula, for example, participates in emotional processing with the amygdala and other fronto-limbic structures and, like those regions, also shows hyperactivity during emotional processing in OCD [36]. In addition, the sensorimotor circuit functions considered here also engage regions and functions of the other neurocircuits. For instance, in its early stages, habit-formation relies on dopaminergic reward signaling in the ventral affective circuit [94].
