As noted earlier, numerous researchers have found that the FTND can predict cessation likelihood [28, 29, 95, 96]; although [97]. Moreover, there is evidence that smokers with higher FTND scores show greater benefit from nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) than do those with low scores [98]. The FTND tends to show only modest predictive validity with regards to on-going ratings of withdrawal severity [27], however attitudinal factors may account for stronger relations when global impressions of withdrawal are used [96, 99].
