In contrast with THC, the use of CBD, the second most abundant cannabinoid in cannabis, has been shown to be devoid of any direct psychoactive behavioral effect in animal studies and, notably, had no rewarding effect, thus negating its potential for abuse as an addictive substance [148,149]. It has been shown that CBD can counter many of the actions of THC and may even provide a certain degree of protection against some, but not all, psychoactive and other deleterious properties of THC [11,145].
