To assess if ethanol affects the proliferation and survival of iPS cells, we performed a growth curve analysis and calculated their doubling time over passaging (Fig. 1b and 1b insert left, n = 4 lines). To our surprise, no significant difference was observed between ethanol - exposed and control cells (Fig. 1b). In addition, there was no change in the expression of the proliferation marker Ki67 (Fig. 1a) or in pyknotic nuclei (Fig. 1b insert right) between treated and untreated cells, suggesting that ethanol exposure (24hr or 7d) does not impact the survival or proliferation of iPS cells.
