amount of ECM containing β-amyloid. This model of the disease implies that multiple independent genetic factors, as well as infections and/or injuries may accelerate consecutive transitions leading to the disease. It also suggests different therapeutic strategies for early and late disease stages. Therapies targeting lipid metabolism and inflammation may be more effective in the early stages. In the late stages, when the brain becomes enriched in mesenchymal-like signaling and adhesion processes, novel approaches that support the survival of the new state of the brain tissue should be considered.
