Participants completed the Perceived Social Support from Family Scale and the Perceived Social Support from Friends Scale (Procidano & Heller, 1983) at T2. These are 20-item self-report measures used to assess social support specifically from family members or friends. Sample items include “my family/friends give me the moral support I need”, and “I rely on my family/friends for emotional support”. Participants responded to each statement on a 4-point scale ranging from 1 (generally false) to 4 (generally true). Scores were averaged across items and higher scores represent higher family support (α = .95) or friend support (α = .91).
