Chunk #24 — DISCUSSION

Source
Nicotine induces negative energy balance through hypothalamic AMP-activated protein kinase.

Text

This study identifies a previously unknown link between nicotine-induced negative energy balance and hypothalamic AMPK. More specifically, the inactivation of hypothalamic AMPK caused by nicotine alters the physiological parameters of energy balance. This ultimately decreases feeding behavior, stimulates EE (by triggering both physical activity and thermogenesis in BAT), and drives an increase in lipid oxidation.
