The sample for this study was derived from the Virginia Adult Twin Study of Psychiatric and Substance Use Disorders (VATSPSUD), a longitudinal study of genetic and environmental risk factors for common adult psychiatric disorders (see Kendler and Prescott, 2006). Participants were identified through the Virginia Twin Registry (now part of the Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry) by matching birth certificate information of multiple births to contact information in state records.
