The FSCD and COGEND subset of the SAGE EA sample was combined with the COGA GWAS EA sample, and then split randomly in half so that each half contained 50% of cases and 50% of controls. In order to account for chance effects, this subsetting procedure was performed 100 times to obtain 100 subsamples in which analyses were completed. The combined sample included 2951 individuals, comprising of 1456 cases and 1495 controls. Controls who endorsed 3 or more symptoms for DSM-IV AD, but did not cluster within a 12-month period, were removed from the combined sample, as these individuals may still represent genetic risk (N = 49).
