differing results may reflect differences in assessment method (i.e., self reports in the present study and maternal report in the British study), and are consistent with the literature suggesting that correlations for parenting of children in the same family are more similar in parent reports than in child reports (Achenbach et al., 1987; Hewitt et al., 1992; Wade & Kendler, 2000). These differences may also reflect the fact that Jaffee et al. (2004) assessed corporal punishment and physical maltreatment occurring prior to age 5 whereas the present study queried maltreatment occurring prior to age 12.
