GW0742 has also been shown to be neuroprotective in primary cultures of rat cerebellar granule neurons exposed to low-KCl media. Prolonged exposure of primary cultures to GW0742, however, induced apoptotic cell death [44]. Future studies should examine if, similar to vascular endothelial cells, PPARδ agonists can also promote neuronal survival after ischemic insults.
