To provide a perspective of how the DEGs from our in vitro study may be related to functional perturbations that can occur during brain development in SZ, we performed co-expression analysis of the DEGs using expression data from the BrainSpan. This analysis has been shown to be very enlightening for mapping specific genes and critical neurodevelopmental processes in time and space in the brain to clarify disease pathophysiology [64, 128]. Our analysis demonstrated that the DEGs, detected in 22q11.2 SZ neurons, converged on co-expression networks that could play critical roles in the development and function of specific brain regions in the embryonic and adolescence stages.
