Recently, an alternatively spliced exon with a specific promoter was identified in humans, ~28 kb upstream of exon 1,15 suggesting an extended OPRM1 gene. It is also of note that except for three pseudogenes, there is no gene located at one mega base 5′ to OPRM1.
