assessing the impedance spectrum in monkey cortex showed impedance to be homogeneous, tangentially isotropic, and not frequency-dependent (Logothetis et al., 2007), this may not necessarily be the case for the hippocampus due to its laminar structure, which in theory could generate electrical fields along its longitudinal axis (Taylor and Dudek, 1984). While such an effect can not account for the observed inter-structural gap in synchrony, it could possibly be the reason for the higher level of intra-hippocampal synchrony compared to intra-entorhinal synchrony.
