In the second comparison (happy vs. sad), participants were faster to happy faces for both tasks (emotion task: F(1, 95) = 98.31, p < 0.0001; gender task: (F(1, 95) = 16.02, p < 0.0001)). When neutral faces were excluded, picture gender had a significant effect for both happy and sad faces with faster responses to pictures of females (emotion task: F(1, 95) = 41.99, p < 0.0001; gender task: (F(1, 95) = 16.59, p < 0.0001).
