Similarly, the AA/AG genotypes also predicted adolescent-reported conduct problems and hyperactive–inattentive symptoms (as well as their change over 18 months) indirectly through adolescent impulsivity. Our finding partially replicates previous research which found a link between GABRA2 and conduct problems [10–12]. However, our results differ from these studies because we only found an indirect, not a direct, link between GABRA2 and conduct problems. Unfortunately, few studies to our knowledge have examined the mechanisms in the relation between GABRA2 and conduct problems and hyperactive–inattentive symptoms, or the direct effect of GABRA2 on hyperactive–inattentive symptoms. Thus, these findings must be considered as preliminary until they can be replicated by future studies.
