single cells. Data were quantified using FCS Express 5 (De Novo Software) and GraphPad Prism 7 (GraphPad Software). Cells pretreated with 2 μM Cytochalasin D for 30 minutes before and during the uptake of bioparticles were used as a negative control. The population of GFP+/pHrodo+ cells in each condition was used to quantify the phagocytic index: percentage of pHrodo+ cells in GFP+ gated population × geometric mean pHrodo intensity/106; and represented as phagocytic activity. Three independent experiments were performed with two technical replicates without randomization of sample processing, n = 3. Researcher was not blinded to the samples identification. Differences between the means of preselected groups were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Sidak’s post hoc multiple comparisons test between selected groups, with a single pooled variance. Values of Cytochalasin D-treated cells were excluded from the statistical analysis. Adjusted P values for each comparison are reported, non-significant differences are not reported.
