Additionally, there is some evidence to suggest that OXT may also modulate GABAergic transmission via direct interaction with GABAA receptors (Bowen et al., 2015, Dong et al., 2017). More specifically, OXT has been shown to act directly on extra synaptic delta subunit-containing GABAA receptors to block the positive allosteric modulation of these receptors by alcohol (Bowen et al., 2015).
