Changes specific to alcoholism were the down-regulation of GABRA2 (FDR p = 0.028) and a trend down-regulation of GABRG1 (FDR p = 0.056). These closely adjacent genes in the chromosome 4 cluster respectively encode the GABAA receptor alpha2 and gamma1 subunits that have been robustly associated with alcohol use disorders and alcohol related phenotypes in human case-control studies (reviewed in [14]).
