It can be postulated that the molecular tolerance observed in voltage-gated calcium channels and BK channels in the terminal are causally related to tolerance to effects of alcohol on peptide release. This, in turn, would result in tolerance to diuretic effects of alcohol observed in both humans and animal models [40]. Although only tolerance of peptide release is being discussed here, the full story is even more interesting (although too complex to discuss here) in that AVP, itself, appears to play an important role in the mediation of forms of behavioral tolerance [41].
