exposed to chronic stress, the behavioral changes of Ank3+/− mice were reversed and depression-related features emerged (increased immobility in the forced swim test). In contrast, wild-type Ank3+/+ mice were unaffected by the stress exposure, suggesting that reduced expression of ankyrin G in brain is associated with heightened reactivity to stressors. Persistent elevation in plasma levels of the stress hormone corticosterone at baseline and after stress exposure in Ank3+/− mice provided further evidence for a link between ankyrin G and the stress response.
