Descriptive statistics are presented by sex and drinking onset in Table 1. Individuals who reported drinking onset by age 14 were on average younger and less likely to be married at the time of the interview than those in the middle (onset ages 15 to 16) and older onset (age ≥17) groups. Men who started drinking at age 14 or younger had lower income and less education than men in other onset groups. Across both sexes, early drinking onset was associated with higher PYDD. The young onset group reported more dSLE than the middle and older onset groups, but the 3 groups did not differ in the number of iSLE.
