lower rates of DD among Latinos and that these factors may begin to break down or have less effect once Latinos are exposed to a different culture through residence in the US (Alegria et al., 2006; Montross et al., 2005; Vega et al., 2009). Since this study was done uniformly across sites, our findings suggest that environment (country of residence) indeed plays a significant role in development of SUD in schizophrenic individuals among Latinos/Latinas.
