The Allen Human Brain Atlas (http://www.brain-map.org) provides human postmortem brain gene expression maps employing a whole-brain microarray survey on six donors [22]. Microarray data were obtained from the ENIGMA TOOLBOX [37]. Briefly, the data were preprocessed according to previously established recommendations and matched to the Desikan-Killiany atlas using “abagen” [38, 39]. Only genes consistently expressed across donors were included (rdonors > 0.4), resulting in a total of 6,513 genes across the 66 cortical regions. There was no tissue sample matched to the right frontal pole and right temporal pole in the Desikan-Killiany atlas. Therefore, standard loadings from these two regions were not included in the analysis. Then, the 66 standard loadings of the Combined-PC1 were correlated with the transcriptional profile of each gene.
