of frontoparietal networks in this top-down control of selective attention (Corbetta et al., 2000; Giesbrecht et al., 2003). Early gamma (28–45 Hz) band response (1–150 ms) is significantly attenuated in the frontal region for target processing in abstinent alcoholics (Padmanabhapillai et al., 2006a) and children of alcoholics (HR) (7–17 years) (Padmanabhapillai et al., 2006b). Differences were only seen in the parietal region for the target condition in HR individuals. A dysfunctional frontoparietal attentional network may be associated with the impaired gamma band response and a deficient frontal top-down processing mechanism (Rangaswamy et al., 2004a).
