In the analysis of the males alone, the strongest association signals were observed for variant rs6458146 (OR=1.72 (1.40–2.13), P=3.9 × 10−7), residing in an intergenic region on chromosome 6p21.2. An additional four markers in nearby loci gave signal with P-values<5 × 10−5 (rs9471290, OR=1.68 (1.37–2.06), P=8.1 × 10−7; rs10498746, OR=1.72 (1.38–2.13), P=9.9 × 10−7, rs7749170, OR=1.67 (1.35–2.08), P=3.8 × 10−6; rs4714329, OR=1.56 (1.27–1.92), P=2.5 × 10−5).
