Text

Thus, although alcohol drinking induced differential changes in the PFC and AMY proteome, specific target proteins in each brain region are known to regulate aspects AD pathology. Moreover, identified networks or protein groupings were identified by IPA as likely to be downstream of APP, PSEN-1 and Tau, which suggests collective involvement of unique protein networks within the PFC and AMY in AD. This indicates that alcohol use may influence AD pathology via distinct but functionally related protein networks that vary across brain regions. Therefore, efforts to more fully elucidate the impact of alcohol use on AD will benefit from a systems approach that delineates adaptations in specific molecular mechanisms within brain regions, but also takes into account common functional effects of distinct proteins between brain regions.
