In this sample, 68% reported using at least one standard drink of alcohol by the time of their most recent interview. The mean age of alcohol onset was 15.8 years (sd=2.13) for those offspring with lifetime alcohol use. Figure 1 shows the number of offspring reporting alcohol onset for each age: 34% of 15-year olds, 41% of 16-year olds, and 74% of 17-year-olds reported lifetime alcohol use; only one offspring in the 18-to-26 range reported never drinking alcohol.
