In addition to examining parental mental health history as a risk factor for youth suicide attempts, this study was designed to consider multivariate models. Based on previously published findings, within-adolescent factors, including history of multiple suicide attempts, severity of suicidal ideation, severity of depression and anxiety, and the presence of an alcohol or substance use disorder, were hypothesized to be meaningful predictors of post-hospitalization suicide attempts. These factors are explained here in more detail.
