class (0.44) than either urban African American (0.19) or rural European American girls (0.32). We labeled this class “preadolescent substance users” because they initiated both tobacco and alcohol/drug use in preadolescence, but did not initiate concurrent sexual activity. Girls in risk class 4 (35 %of the sample) had low probabilities on each of the risky behaviors and were labeled “low risk.”
