Text

Importantly, although alcohol may affect levels of glutamate and GABA-A receptors in the brain by a multitude of mechanisms, our results in this study and recent studies involving the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, orbitofrontal cortex and amygdala (Jin et al., 2011a, 2014a,b) suggest a strict regional specificity of the effects of alcohol on the mRNA expression of ionotropic glutamate and GABA-A receptor subunits.
