Text

As objective indicators of heavy drinking, participants reported the frequency with which they binge drank (5 drinks for men/4 drinks for women on a single occasion) and drank to intoxication (“got drunk”) over the past 3 months. Correlations between binging and intoxication at each time point ranged from 0.76 to 0.82. Thus, the mean of the 2 items at each time point was used as a heavy drinking composite.
