The GAIN data set contains 1,442 individuals of European ancestry used as part of the control cohorts in genome-wide association studies of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. The data set was obtained from the database of Genotype and Phenotype (dbGaP) found at http://www.ncbi.nih.gov/gap through dbGaP accession numbers phs000021.v1.p1, phs000021.v2.p1 and phs000017.v1.p1. Further methods for CNV calling, analysis and MLPA are included in the Supplementary Information. All clinical studies were conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki using methods that have previously been reported13.
