DSM-5 maximum symptom count, the maximum number of endorsed symptoms at any one assessment across multiple assessments was used. This variable was transformed by the natural logarithm of the symptom count plus one (i.e., ln (count + 1)). Accordingly, for each subject, we computed four density FH scores: 1) Primary and secondary non-descendants with DSM-5 AUD diagnosis (FHDrPSND–AUDDx), 2) Primary and secondary non-descendants with DSM-5 AUD maximum symptom count (FHDrPSND–AUDMaxSxCnt), 3) All relatives with DSM-5 AUD diagnosis (FHDrAR–AUDDx), and 4) All relatives with DSM-5 AUD maximum symptom count (FHDrAR–AUDMaxSxCnt).
