Absolute LD (D' = 1, r2 = 1) was observed between SNPs G-1250A, T-244C, and C-227T (Table 4), and Haploview also identified G-1250A as a candidate haplotype-tagging SNP in this LD block structure. The minor allele frequencies for these three SNPs were relatively high (Table 3), and G-1250A was selected for the association study. Among the remaining six SNPs, IVS1C75467T and A1032G are relatively common, with minor allele frequencies greater than 0.1, and could be candidates for an association study. Because IVS1C75467T is in the intron region and thus is less likely to affect the mRNA product or protein levels, it was not selected as a candidate SNP. Therefore, G-1250A and A1032G were selected from the nine KCNJ6 SNPs for the association study.
