test-set (remaining 50% of the subjects - used to estimate prospective classification success). The algorithm used by BMDP does not always provide a precise split; the exact ratio of control to experimental subjects within each selected sub-group reflects random chance. As a separate measure of classification success, two-group t-tests (BMDP-3D) were performed utilizing the canonical discriminant variable produced by a training-set test on the corresponding test-set.
