Additionally, the available gene expression data are from subjects of European ancestry. Analysis of African American samples in the future would be of significant value. It will also be of value for future studies to move beyond the in vitro and animal model studies to test the putative linkage of BCL2/Bcl-2 to HIV infectivity in humans. Nonetheless, the gene expression analyses presented in this study suggest a novel and biologically plausible role for the identified SNP (rs4878712) in HIV acquisition.
