Our Eigenstrat analysis of just the two African samples from the unrelated individuals file (Figure 1) suggests much greater genetic similarity among the Luhya sample than among the Yoruba sample. One possible reason for the apparent heterogeneity of the Yoruba sample is their ancestors’ involvement in the slave trade. Indeed, the Yoruba were one of the largest African groups enslaved and taken by Europeans to the New World, especially Cuba.
