Cohort, case-control, and cross-sectional studies addressing the association between AUD and suicide were included irrespective of participants' age, gender, language, nationality, race, religion, or publication status (published as a full text article in a journal or presented as an abstract at a conference). The observational studies addressing suicide rate among alcohol abusers without comparison group or self-harm without suicide intention were excluded.
