Olfactory astrocytes were located around the olfactory glomeruli and could represent the previously described velate astrocytes, for which no molecular properties are known; they highly specifically expressed the Islr and Islr2 genes encoding immunoglobulin-domain cell adhesion proteins (Figures 3 and S2), among other genes.
