Successful GWA studies have been conducted for several common, complex diseases including diabetes type 2, myocardial infarction, breast cancer, and Crohn's disease (for all published studies see http://www.genome.gov/gwastudies/). The first GWA studies for schizophrenia have now been reported (Mah et al., 2006; Lencz et al., 2007; O'Donovan et al., 2008; Shifman et al., 2008; Sullivan et al., 2008; Kirov et al., 2009b; Need et al., 2009; International Schizophrenia Consortium, 2009; Shi et al., 2009; Stefansson et al., 2009). The results of these studies are shown in Table 1 and are summarized below.
