Inhibitory control can also be assessed using the colour–word Stroop task116. Slower performance and more errors during incongruent trials on this task are a hallmark of PFC dysfunction. Neuroimaging research has shown that the dACC and DLPFC are involved in this task117–119, with distinct roles for these regions in conflict detection (dACC) and resolution (DLPFC)120.
