Thus, alcohol exposure reduced the number of BK mRNA variants by eliminating several variants, five out of six of them containing exon 29. Due to its regulation by alcohol we refer to exon 29 as ALCOREX (alcohol-regulated exon), by analogy to STREX (stress axis-regulated exon - Xie and McCobb, 1998).
