Text

Daily positive and negative affect were assessed using items from both the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS; Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988) and the Non-Specific Psychological Distress Scale (Kessler, Andrews, Colpe, Hiripi, Mroczek, Normand et al., 2002; Mroczek & Kolarz, 1998). Using a 4-point scale from 0 (none of the time) to 3 (all of the time), respondents indicated how often during the past day they experienced thirteen different positive emotions (e.g., cheerful, calm; α = .96) and fourteen different negative emotions (e.g, sad, angry; α = .91). Higher scores indicate greater positive and negative affect.
