Each day, participants were asked whether they had experienced each of 25 physical symptoms: pain and musculoskeletal symptoms (e.g., headache), gastrointestinal (e.g., nausea), flu and respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough), and other physical symptoms (e.g., teeth-related symptoms). This variable was created by taking the sum of the number of symptoms, where higher scores reflect a greater number of physical symptoms.
