Respondents reported on their age (continuous, standardized), gender (1 = male, 0 = female), race (1 = European American, 0 = African American), and marital status (where 1 = married, 0 = never married/separated/divorced/widowed). Respondents’ education was coded into four categories (1 = less than high school, 2 = high school diploma/some college, 3 = college degree, and 4 = graduate/professional degree). Household income from wages, pensions, Social Security, government assistance, etcetera was coded into seven categories (0 = $0–$10,000, 1 = $10,001–$20, 000, 2 = $20, 001–$35,000, 3 = $35,001–$50,000, 4 = $50, 001–$75,000, 5 = $75,001–$100,000, 6 = $100,001–$150,000, and 6 = more than $150,000).
