We have further confirmed the methylation differences between CPA and control groups and correlation with the cytokine levels in plasma in regions within the IL-6, IL-8 and STAT6 loci by pyrosequencing (Figure 5A, 5B and 5C; see Methods). Intriguingly, we note that the pyrosequencing methylation levels in STAT6 gene are significantly associated with IL-4 levels in plasma.
